At Marina Tankerkomerc
Brian and I just left Zadar after spending two engaging nights at Marina Tankerkomerc. We arrived at noon (12:00) on the 24th and, after securing the boat at the marina, ventured into the enchanting walled city of Zadar. This historic city, with its Roman ruins and medieval churches, offers a mesmerizing glimpse into the past, intertwined seamlessly with lively cafes and modern art installations like the famous Sea Organ and Sun Salutation.
Our first stop was a local pizzeria where we enjoyed authentic Croatian flavors. We strolled around the bustling streets until around 15:00, when Mikel and I returned to our boat, Anna. Mikel had arranged an Uber for 16:30 to take her to the airport. Fortunately, Brian and Rachel had just arrived, so they were able to see her off with me.
That evening, I retired early, feeling under the weather and exhausted from the adventures of the previous days—especially the lively night of the 22nd. We had anchored in a scenic cove, celebrating with dancing and vodka until late. The next morning’s amusement came when we couldn’t find Brian, only to discover he had climbed up to the flybridge to sleep under the dinghy cover, ingeniously camouflaging himself.
The evening of the 23rd was an adventurous one, spent at anchor in the breathtaking Telašćica Nature Park. Our initial anchoring attempt was foiled by strong winds, prompting us to move further north to Uvala Cuscica, where we found a more sheltered spot. It was only when the park warden arrived by boat and requested a 100-euro entrance fee that we realized we were within a protected national park area. Telašćica is renowned for its pristine landscapes, rich biodiversity, and dramatic coastal cliffs, making our unexpected expense a worthwhile contribution to conservation efforts.
Our journey back to Zadar the next morning was a tranquil, three-hour cruise, marked by the stunning vistas of Croatia’s Adriatic coast. Despite the uneventful nature of this leg of our trip, the serene beauty of the sea was a perfect backdrop for reflection on our recent escapades.
Our trip today is to the island of Krk where we will anchor out and then make our way around the Istrian peninsula to Trieste, Italy the following day.
