Finding Serenity in Krk

We found a quiet anchorage just southwest of the city of Krk on the south side of the island. Initially, there were two other small boats with families enjoying the water and cooking out on one of the small shores. However, they left an hour after we arrived, leaving us in peaceful solitude. The water was only 4.5 meters deep (a stark contrast to the usual 20 meters we anchor in), allowing us to see the bottom clearly. The island of Krk offers a perfect retreat with its serene anchorages and clear waters, making it an ideal destination for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Anchoring Challenges

We encountered some difficulties setting the anchor. Brian dove in to check it and found it lying on its side. Despite righting it, the anchor wouldn’t dig in due to the hard sand. Nevertheless, we let out enough rode, and with the seas being glassy and calm with very little wind, we felt secure. This anchoring difficulty highlights the importance of being prepared for different seabed conditions. Hard sand can be tricky, but with patience and the right techniques, a secure anchor can be achieved.

A Simple Meal and Leisure Time

For dinner, I cooked spaghetti and sauce, making enough to have for future meals as we cruise. It was an unremarkable meal but practical. Afterward, we both took a swim, feeding the fish with some small crackers while I watched them underwater with a mask and snorkel. The thought of bringing out the SCUBA gear and the “hookah pump” crossed my mind, but I was too lazy to set it up. Sometimes, the simplest meals and activities, like swimming and feeding fish, can be the most rewarding. These moments remind us to appreciate the small joys of life.

Sunset and a Late Start

We spent the evening reading books and enjoying the sunset before going to bed around 9:30 PM. We had planned to start our day early at 8:00 AM, but I overslept and woke up at 9:10 AM! I suppose I needed the extra rest. Oversleeping is a sign that the body needed rest, especially after a day of sailing and swimming.

Future Adventures

Considering the use of SCUBA gear and the “hookah pump” for future dives could enhance the underwater exploration experience around Krk. The island’s clear waters are likely teeming with marine life worth observing up close. Overall, this evening in Krk was a perfect blend of relaxation, simple pleasures, and the beauty of nature. It’s these moments that make sailing adventures truly memorable.

When we left the anchorage in the morning, we saw, just to the south of us a boat half-way submerged. See pic.

Hi David, do you know whose boat that was? I assume it was empty? Sounds really nice what you are doing. Who is Brian. Have fun and stay safe and keep them coming.
