With Gilles Sommers at Milos Sunset

With Gilles Sommers at Milos Sunset

After 3 days of anchoring out in gusting winds, we headed to Milos to meet up with our friends Gilles and Clelia Sommers who have a vacation home there. The voyage itself was unremarkable and we had following seas and pretty good wind so we made good time. We arrived in the marina in the afternoon and settled in. I contacted Gilles to let him know we arrived and agreed for him to pick us up for dinner at 1800. We went to a spectacular small restaurant on the top side of Milos down where the water meets the cliffs. We had a great mean and then headed to the western side of the top of Milos to watch the sunset. Quite something!

The next morning I agreed to go with Gilles on an hour walk up to Plaka from the marina. I was huffing and puffing but made it there where we had breakfast. And the return trip back to the marina met us with a nice swim at the beach. Good morning!

Brian and I did some boat chores and discovered the marina area and we rode our scooters almost to the top where the main city is located. We found a bar that played 70’s music and met some interesting folks from Scotland and the Netherlands and ended up staying until 0430. Needless to say, the next day was slow.

Our last night there I was invited by Clelia to a dinner with her grade-school friends she had not seen in several years. The dinner was nice and we had some drinks at the Sommer’s home afterward. Knowing that I was leaving the next morning gave me the excuse to retire back to Anna. The next day we left Milos mid-morning for the Island of Ios.

Thank you Gilles and Clelia!
