Anchorage at Kato Vasiliki
Navigating Towards the Gulf of Corinth
We decided to get around the corner of the Greek mainland on our way to the Gulf of Corinth. The weather, however, was not so kind to us that day. The winds were blowing at 20 knots with heavier gusts from time to time. Although we were getting some following seas or starboard seas, it still pushed us around quite a bit, resulting in slower progress.
Anchoring at Kato Vasiliki
As we approached the entrance to the Gulf, we chose a nice spot to anchor at a place called Kato Vasiliki. This picturesque village, located on the western coast of mainland Greece near the Gulf of Corinth, offered us a perfect anchorage in a large area with a few other sailboats.
Kato Vasiliki is a hidden gem with its beautiful beaches and traditional Greek charm. The village is surrounded by olive groves and lush greenery, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. The waters here are crystal clear, making it an ideal spot for swimming and snorkeling. The local tavernas serve delicious Greek cuisine, and the warm hospitality of the residents adds to the charm of this peaceful retreat.
Relaxation and Swimming
We swam a bit and initially planned to use our SCUBA hookah, but we remembered that our batteries were not working at 100%, so we opted to just swim around. The water was refreshing and clear, providing a perfect way to unwind after a challenging day of sailing.
For dinner, we enjoyed some of the remaining pizza we had bought in Saranda. The combination of a beautiful anchorage and good food made for a pleasant evening. We turned in early to ensure we were well-rested for the next leg of our journey.
Preparing for the Corinth Canal
Our plan for the next day was to make it through to the Gulf of Corinth, where we intended to anchor right at the northern entrance of the Corinth Canal. The plan was to go through the canal the next morning, marking another exciting milestone in our sailing adventure.
